A New Project

Hello interested readers. My name is Katie. I am a mother, daughter, sister, and wife. I live way out on the tip of a little peninsula and after several years with no internet in my home, I am sitting now in my kitchen; connected. I'm not sure if a semi-colon was the proper grammatical tool in the previous sentence, and I'm not sure if one's choice of punctuation could be considered grammar, but that gives me an opportunity to share with you that I have a preference for giving light to my errors. Not just my flaws, but also my most embarrassing wishes, my secrets, my fantastical dreams, and mundane details about how I work.
My hope for this blog is that I will:
Better understand my work and how do I do it.
Do my best to document the real process.
Share something gritty and real.
Breathe life into my work and connect it to others. Watch it grow.
Maybe make some money or contribute to the feeding and sheltering of my family.

I'm using the word work, but some might call it art, or writing, or divining, or doodling, or sewing or poetry. Some might call it other things as well, but for now, I'll call it work.
I've been doing this thing my entire life, I think.  Making art. Drawing, sewing, singing and dancing. I went to art school, I danced into the night and howled at the moon. I birthed my babies at home. I have, and continue to do my thing. Now, I will attempt to document and share it.

Here is my space in the corner of the dining room. I sew, my children play with dough, or beans or paper. Or make messes and yell for mom or sit in my lap or dig through my yarn or watch movies.

I have spent the past 7 years putting children to bed every single night. Though I do all forms of art-making to create finished things like: knitted mittens, flowy skirts and acrylic paintings, I have consistently kept a journal. It fits nicely in my lap or backpack, it never need be finished.

That  feels right for now. I look forward to experiencing the growth of this new project.
